An important skill in part of Information Literacy comes from understanding how to critically and objectively evaluate information that you find on the web. This skill involves more than reviewing the appearance of the site or a site's popularity.
Where to begin?
For the purpose of this training module, we will focus on the model created by JIm Kapoun way back in 1998, with some additions along the way. In his article, Teaching undergrads Web evaluation: A guide for library instruction, JIm Kapoun put forth a simple 5 stage process to properly evaluate a website for use as a reliable resource. Evaluate a website for:
Accuracy
Authority
Objectivity
Currency
Coverage
